There’s only One Church and We’re All Priests (2013 Winter School)

There's only One Church and We're All Priests - sharing from the 2013 Winter School of Truth in London, UKI enjoyed hearing about the Church at the recent Winter School of Truth in London. The Church is not a building we go to. It is a gathering, in the most simple sense, but it is also a whole lot more. It is the house of God, His dwelling place and home. It His lampstand for Him to stand on and shine. It is the Body of Christ, His bride, his counterpart. The Church is even God’s masterpiece. Many of us have thoughts of “improving”, but God created us perfect.

I also enjoyed that there are not many churches, but one Church. It cannot be divided. However, we do not meet as “one universal church” due to practical reasons, so instead we have a local church in each locality, each representing the universal church.

The ground of the church was also new to me. We cannot choose ourselves where to put the Church. Deuteronomy 12:5 says,

But to the place which Jehovah your God will choose out of all your tribes to put His name, to His habitation, shall you seek, and there shall you go.

God has the only choice in this matter because the Church is His bride.

I also enjoyed seeing the matter of the priesthood. A priest is there to be filled with God until he is one with him. All in the church are priests and must fulfill the priestly duties, such as praying, functioning in the meetings and bringing others to God. “Let all things be done for building up” (1 Cor. 14:26).

Though Satan tries to degrade the Church, he will not prevail. “And I also say to you that you are Peter, and upon this rock I will build my church, and the gates of Hades shall not prevail against it” (Matt. 16:18). Praise the Lord for the Church!
